ARCST and BCITRI launch the "Green Science Project"

As the world fights COVID-19, it is necessary to remember that humanity, and especially developing countries, due to their high vulnerability, are still threatened by climate change. According to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events will continue to increase rapidly in the coming years and if there is no drastic change from the main greenhouse gas emitters, that could increase the earth’s temperature in 2 ºC during the XXI century generating irreversible changes in nature. So understanding the basic science of climate, the influence of humans on the environment, and the influence of climate on society and ecosystems requires information, media, and technological skills. This is especially true in the digital age. Policy-making, awareness-raising, and other levels of intervention against climate change cannot be done outside the spheres of information and the media.

In this way, the international program of the Andean Road Countries for Science and Technology entitled “Green Science Project” promotes the informational scientific literature defined in UNESCO's Media and Information Literacy (MIL). In this sense, it tries to bring science closer to society and promote the development of science and technology. This project is supported by its collaborators including Instituto Cervantes, the Journal of Latin American Sciences and Culture (JLASC), the intelligent technology development company Elektro High Tech Co. Ltd, and Beijing Chaoxuan Intelligent Technology Research Institute (BCITRI).

The media and informational literature (MIL) have grown steadily in all regions of the world, with many organizations and initiatives taking place. MIL is a forerunner of the scientific literature and when combined with it, it can empower citizens to contribute informedly to the fight against the climate crisis.

The world needs collective action, for this reason, we have prepared a series of activities to promote the conservation of nature, the harmony with Mother Earth, the protection of endangered species, the recovery of earth, how we can stop the ecocide, how science and technology can help us find the balance in our socio-ecological systems, between social welfare and conservation and how to reconcile social justice with ecological justice, etc.

As one step forward to disseminate information, scientific literacy, and exchange of knowledge on the International environmental issues, on the afternoon of August 19th, 2021, at the invitation of the Bolivian Embassy in China, the Andean Road Countries for Science and Technology (ARCST), JLASC, BCITRI, and Elektro High Tech Co. Ltd participated in a high-level round table on environmental protection issues with the Bolivian Government and launched the "Green Science Project". Mr. Mauricio Belmonte Pijuan and Colonel Jaime Quevedo were present by the Bolivian side. On the other hand, BCITRI was represented by Mr. Jiang Longliang Dean of BCITRI, Mrs. Zhao Yanyan Vice Dean of BCITRI, and Mrs. Shao Xiaoting Deputy Director of the Expert Committee of BCITRI. Additionally, ARCST, JLASC, and ELEKTRO were represented by Dr. Marco A. Cabero.

From the perspective of macro background support, systematic solutions, and practical cases, BCITRI analyzed the current ecological and environmental problems facing humans and the importance of ecological safety and put forward the development concept of life, life, production, and ecology. Adhered to the construction idea of combining ecological governance with industrial development, a proposal is to adopt a 3-D visual intelligence platform to support multiple management, build an online and offline integrated "teaching, learning, training, and evaluation" professional talent cultivation system in green skills, through the formulation of the top-level Ecological standards, cultivating industrial talents at all levels, technological assistance, and multi-dimensional empowerment to promote the upgrading of traditional industries and the development of emerging industries. At the same time, it also introduced ecological governance practices such as the "Zero-pollution Hometown Construction Public Welfare Project", which was unanimously praised by the experts at the meeting. The meeting concluded with a firm conviction to continue exchanges on the "Green Science Project" and achieve more cooperation in this field.

Aiming at ecological environmental protection, ARCST and BCITRI are coordinating to bring together many ecological experts, scientific research institutes, social organizations, and environmental protection companies to establish an Ecological Revitalization Think Tank (ERT2) to conduct continuous research on environmental issues, and offer solutions based on actual needs, and contribute to the ecological construction of the "global village". The concept of the global village stands for a harmonious society that carries out eco-community building that emphasizes healthy communities and healthy homes, providing environmental education services and “healthy” social work skill training.

Next, the ERT2 will earnestly implement the spirit of "the people's yearning for a better life" proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and continue to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, and jointly promote the harmony of production, life, and ecology. Make progress together, continue to promote the harmonious development of man and nature, make the world healthier, and make life better!
